Weekend [non]Adventures

The weekend started with a lot of excitement. I mean, a lot of excitement.

Then it went down hill very quickly.

Let's start here, shall we?

Friday Night

Husband and I, along with billions of other people, sat at home and watched the opening ceremony for the Olympics on the 'telly'. However, we enjoyed margaritas (me) and summer shandy (husband) and a mixture of peanut butter and peanut M&M's. Real healthy, I know.

So, was it that I did not like the opening ceremony or did I really like it and not know. Either way, last thing I knew was the whole bottle glass of margarita was gone (I will let
you all decide if I drank one glass or the 750 ml bottle).

I just have to say that I was definitely disappointed with the opening ceremony.
I did not like it!
It kind of ruined my weekend. But the remainder of the weekend was spent watching sports. Sports like, beach volleyball, volleyball, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, water polo, and many more.

How was your weekend?

Ulta [mini] Haul

Ulta is starting to grow on me only because of the variety of products that they carry.
For makeup products, I tend to only stick to one brand because my skin is very sensitive and everything breaks me out. The main brand I use is Clinique for face lotion,
washes, foundation, powders, and even mascara.

Well, that leaves me with a whole bunch of other beauty products that I can test out.
I have been having a lot of issues with my hair since moving to Cali. The summer dry heat is killing my scalp. In Michigan, where I grew up, I only had a problem with my hair in the winter time.
My hairstylist recommended Healthy Sexy Hair products. So after my last appointment I ran over to Ulta and picked up some conditioner and leave in conditioner (I had just bought a liter bottle of Aveda shampoo so I definitely do not need more shampoo).

I loved the Healthy Sexy Hair products so much that I looked online to find deals. Sure enough, Ulta had their liter bottles cheaper than the regular sized bottles. Winner!

If I wanted to get free shipping I had to purchase more items to fulfill the minimum price.
Of course, I could find a few more items to add to my cart.

So, this is what I bought!

Healthy Sexy Hair Shampoo and Conditioner

H2O Agave Mist body balm - I love this stuff.
Not sticky, smells great, and it is great at moisturizing.

Weekend Adventures

This past weekend was a blast. We left home early Friday and headed to Reno. Most of you know that we have a friend that lives there so we go quite often. This trip we definitely had some plans.

Friday was pretty relaxed getting ready for Saturday's event.

Saturday morning we ate a large breakfast and then stocked up on some goodies from the grocery store.

So, what is the event? We went rafting/tubing down the Truckee River. What a blast!

Unfortunately, I do not have photos. I mean, baby rapids, water
and drinks do not mix well with camera and photo taking.

Here is before, right before we left.
My baby and our Friend's baby. We are still working on socializing them.
And here is after, a failed attempt with the sun screen in an aerosol can.
Why does it not spray on evenly?
That will definitely be the last time I buy an aerosol sun screen. I am going to go back to
rubbin' the lotion on the old fashioned way.

Anyone else had a problem with the aerosol sun screen?

Sunday was a day to relax. All three of us got a little sun burn and were definitely tired
from the 4 hour rock avoiding, screaming wife, rapid dropping, jello shot-ing raft trip.

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

Wedding Guestbook or Serving Tray?

I finally have made some time to make a little something from our wedding 'guestbook'.
The guestbook really was not a guestbook, rather we had people write a
little note on a wine cork and now I have this beauty!!

Wedding Day!

All the signed corks can now be seen on this lovely serving tray.

This is what it first looked like.

It is really sturdy and can definitely hold a lot of dishware.

Here is the breakdown:
(I forgot to keep track while I went so this is the best I can do)

- Cabinet door $5 (Habitat for Humanity Restore)
- Wine corks Free (a lot of drinking)
- Handles $3 each (Habitat for Humanity Restore)
- Paint thinner $8 (Home Depot)
- Sand paper $7 (Home Depot)
- Paint scraper $3 (Habitat for Humanity Restore)
- Sponge brush $0.50 (Habitat for Humanity Restore)
- Wood stain $4 (Habitat for Humanity Restore)
- Polyurethane $10 (Home Depot)
- Liquid nails $4 (Home Depot)
- Mod Podge $7 (Joann's)
- Scrap book paper Previously had

Total = $54.50

 The process:
- Remove any hardware that remains
- Use paint thinner as directed
- Sand off remaining paint and to obtain a smooth finish
- Wipe clean
- Apply stain and polyurethane as directed (I applied 3 coats of Early American stain)
- Mod podge scrap book paper to the back recesses on the cabinet
- Cut wine corks in half (*tip: cut a piece of computer paper the size of recess and arrange wine corks before starting the gluing process)
- Use liquid nail to glue wine corks to cabinet, using a weight on top for 24 hours
- Drill holes for the handles
- Now you are ready to use the serving tray

Almost half of the materials I can use again on future projects so I think that the cost is perfect.
You can buy a kit from many places if you are not up for doing it yourself, kits average $39.99.

As I sit here editing photos and posts for the next two weeks, is it only us

What photo editing website do you all use?

Weekend Adventures

Rather, weekend non-adventures.

Honestly, it was not a horrible weekend and we definitely got a lot of tasks done. I surprised Hubby with some beer when he got home from work on Friday. He first came home and asked if I wanted to go get a drink after dinner and I asked what type he would like. We went back and forth saying, "I don't care". He finally opened the fridge and was pleasantly surprised that I already thought about the drinks.

Actually, the pack I picked up make me pretty happy because I was able to enjoy this...
Widmer Brothers Citra Blonde Summer Seasonal!

Hello deliciousness. Why can I not buy this in a case all on its own? All I can find it in is a variety pack - makes me sad. But our local pub has this on tap so that makes me happy!

Saturday we had to take our poor puppy dog for her annual DHPP vaccine. As a puppy, she had two allergic reactions to the series of this vaccine so ever since we have to give her benadryl before the vaccination. Every time I give her benadryl, it takes me back to my Pharmacy Technician days because she only weighs 11 lbs and we have to giver her liquid benadryl. The liquid medicine has to be measured out precisely and I have to do a little calculation to figure it out (because I just cannot memorize how much to give her).

Anyway, she did not have an allergic reaction - yay! And we found a mobile clinic so we did not have to pay for an office visit - double yay!

Sunday was grocery shopping, exercising and making dessert day. We enjoyed a couple lovely slice(s) of this beautiful dessert...
Oh yeah, strawberry pie. Looking for the recipe? You can find it here.

Here's to another long week.
