How To Run [or workout] Confidently Outside

Friday, October 23, 2015

A big thank you to Soxxy for providing me compression sox to help me become a more confident runner.
--

Have you ever tried to workout outside because the weather was absolutely amazing, only to feel self-conscious and slack at your workout? I've been there. In fact, this all started with running. Growing up, I was never really good at any particular sport but I wanted to be a runner. You know, effortlessly go out for 5+ miles and hardly break a sweat or turn red in the face.

That's not me, and that's not most people.

But everything with practice gets easier and turns you into an expert, of sorts. So today I want to talk about how you can feel confident while running outside. These tips can also be useful if you want to feel confident while working out outside.

Train with like-minded people.
If you are out running your neighborhood and no one else is running, all eyes are on you. Running with a partner or group of people is also good motivation as they encourage you to push harder. But what do you do if you don't have anyone to run with?

Find a route that other runners use.
You won't feel like such an outcast if you are running around other athletes (like I stated above). I like to go to a local park or converted railroad and just run. Most runners will wave to each other, smile, or talk. It's some good motivation to keep going and run for more time or distance.
Observe other runners.
Everyone runs at their own pace, with their own form, and for their own reasons. Don't get so hung up about your heavy breathing, flushed face, or stomping feet. I mean, we all start somewhere, right? Persistence and practice is key.

Fake it 'til you make it.
More like practice and be consistent because soon it will become easy - almost effortless. You at least put the effort in to get out and workout. Congratulate yourself and forget about all the stares or side-eyes that you receive.

Wear clothes that make you feel confident.
This was really important to me when I first started running outside. I wanted people to think that I was an actual runner so I went for the more professional gear. Then I became more confident and left the house wearing almost anything. Although, from my more novice times until now, I have been a huge fan of compression socks. I used to wear them because I thought they were cool but I have since learned their benefits - increase circulation, decrease swelling, and decrease muscle soreness.

The Orion Soxxy Compression Sox are one of my favorites. Not only are they super soft, but they are so easy to get on. If you are familiar with compression socks at all, you would know that it's possible to break out into a sweat just trying to get them on. I'm not kidding. I don't have that problem with these.

Tough Times Call for Heavy Sweating*

Monday, November 24, 2014

I could come up with a million excuses as to why the #SweatinSunday post did not go up yesterday but if you want a few clues, you can follow me on Instagram and see what I have been up to. Don't fear - I am not leaving you out in the cold without my workouts this week.

I don't know about you, but I enjoy seeing what others do daily for fitness. That is the main reason why I share my exercises that I have scheduled for the week. I also believe that if I share these workouts that I am obligated to do them and not just binge on the couch. Not saying that that hasn't happened before!

I am heading up to Michigan on Thursday to spend some time with the family. A and I wouldn't normally travel back but one of my family members is very sick. Again, follow me on Instagram to learn more. But before A and I head up there, we will be running a 5k. It will be a great way to stretch our legs before the 5 hour road trip, and it will help us not feel as guilty about all the delicious Turkey Day treats.
Join me if you'd like or just stash these exercises for the New Year because I know one of your resolutions will be to get into shape, workout more, lose weight, etc. Don't act like that won't be you...

Sweatin' Sunday* - Work it Out

Sunday, November 16, 2014

This week is a difficult week and I am out of town taking care of some family business. Due to not having access to my home weights or work gym, I must rely on body weight workouts. Who is ready to join me?
Dive bombers are my worst enemy! They hurt so bad and are so hard to do. I will continue to try to add them to my workouts because they say practice makes perfect. I am hoping for practice makes muscle?! Don't know how to do dive bombs, go here.

Hate love handles? I suggest lots and lots of windmills. They hurt soo good the next day!

As always, I have no education in fitness. These are just workouts that I like to do and have compiled from many programs I participated in. Enjoy and get your sweat on!

Sweatin' Sunday* - Edited w/ Workouts

Sunday, November 9, 2014

I dropped the ball on this one! I thought I could go out and get a few drinks because what better way to celebrate the end of a weekend. I mean, what better way to try and forget you have to go back to work tomorrow. Any who. I was in the middle of creating beautiful workouts that I will be doing this week and then walked away from my computer - to make another drink. Any guesses on what happened next? I come back to my computer and my work appeared to have started from the beginning again. Ahh!

So here I am, a few drinks in and too darn happy to redo all the work. For now, here is one workout to get me started tomorrow. The remainder shall come... Very soon!

Looky-here, I finally got the remainder of the workouts pulled together. Just a day late and possibly a dollar short.

Who will join me this week?

Sweatin' Sunday*

Sunday, November 2, 2014

The sun set so damn early today, but really I can't complain because I was able to get an extra hour of sleep last night. Tell me I am not alone! And now that my brain is finally realizing that I am no longer on vacation anymore, I think it is time for me to get serious about fitness again. I figured since tomorrow is the first week of November, I might as well start now.

Sunday's have always been my 'rest' day for fitness whenever I actually dedicate time to really workout and Saturday's are my cheat day for eating. So today I rested and yesterday I stuffed my face with as much food and beer as I possibly could. Until I could no longer sit comfortably in jeans. Then it was time to move on to yoga pants.

The good little blogger that I am I know I am a major slacker right now but I am really trying, I decided I would share my weekly workout plans. And maybe, just maybe, I will share my food planning as well. All you have to do is ask and I will make that happen!
Follow along with me this week if you choose or just stock pile these workouts up if you need ideas in the future. You know, when you are no longer comfortable in your jeans and realize you can only wear yoga pants. Every. Single. Day. No judgement!

I would just like to mention, I have no personal training background. These are just exercises I like to do and have been successful in the past to help me to lean out. Use at your own risk! You've been warned.

Will you follow along? Also, where do you get your workout inspiration? I might need a little help.
